Swedish data communications specialist Westermo acquires Switzerland’s Neratec Solutions

Westermo, which designs and manufactures data communications products for mission-critical systems in physically demanding environments such as the rail industry, has acquired the Swiss company Neratec Solutions AG, a technology company specialized in WLAN products with a high focus on reliable and robust wireless communication solutions for the train and trackside sector.

Neratec has about 25 employees and made sales of approximately SFr 6,5 million (£5.2 million) in 2018.Its operations are based in Bubikon, Switzerland.

Westermo, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Beijer Group, currently has over 200 employees and global sales in excess of €50 million (£45 million). All development and production take place in Sweden at the company’s facilities in Stora Sundby and Västerås, though the company has a local presence in more than 35 countries through a network of its own offices and authorised distributors – the Westermo office in the UK has been established for over 20 years.

Westermo CEO Jenny Sjödahl said: “The acquisition of Neratec will strengthen Westermo’s offering to the railway industry to include a strong wireless portfolio that we can channel via our worldwide sales network. Neratec in Switzerland will be our technology centre for industrial WLAN products within Westermo.”

Jussi Harju, managing director of Neratec Solutions, added: “Our complementary technologies will create a very strong offering to the industry and Westermo’s worldwide sales organization will ensure a global market access.”
