Tie the knot on a ‘marriage carriage’

Avanti West Coast is giving couples the chance to hold their wedding on the Marriage Carriage.

A rail operator is giving one lucky couple the chance to ride into the sunset together, as a competition to hold a wedding ceremony on one of its locomotives gets underway.

With the onset of COVID, many prospective couples have found their marriages delayed indefinitely, with little chance of re-booking. Now, however, it is full steam ahead for those wanting to get married. As a result, Avanti West Coast is holding a contest for would be commuters to tie the knot on a special kind of love train.

Expect to find confetti on the lines on August 10, as the winning couple celebrates in a fully decorated wedding carriage, with the dress and cake included as part of the package. The couple will say their vows en route from London Euston to Birmingham New Street. Then they will stop for photos before heading back.

Natasha Grice, Avanti West Coast’s executive director of customer experience, said: “With the wedding industry and married couples-to-be having a tough time over the past year and a half, we couldn’t think of a better way to mark everyone coming together again than helping one lucky couple celebrate with their loved ones, onboard the Avanti West Coast Marriage Carriage.

“Encourage your friends and family to enter online; we want to hear their storie, and ensure the winning couple have the wedding celebration they’ve missed out on.”
